Ideals

Scout Oath

On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Outdoor Code

As an American, I will do my best to
Be clean in my outdoor manners,
Be careful with fire,
Be considerate in the outdoors,
and be conservation-minded.

Scout Mission

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Scout Motto

BE PREPARED.

Patrol Method

The patrol method gives each Scout an opportunity to share responsibility, exercise good judgment, and develop participating citizenship. The patrol is the basic unit of Scouting.

Youth Leadership

Troop 121 is a youth-led troop, fully embracing the idea that Scouts in leadership positions should run their patrols and troop.

"Training [youth] leaders to run their troop is the Scoutmaster’s most important job. Train Scouts to do a job, then let them do it. Never do anything a [scout] can do.”

 — Sir Robert Baden-Powell

Youth Protection

We are committed to ensuring that a safe space is available to all youth in our troop. As a starting point, we practice two-deep leadership, and Youth Protection training is a joining requirement that is retaken every year by all volunteers. We expect a focused commitment from everyone in Scouting to help us build a culture of Youth Protection awareness and safety.

“We are not a club or a Sunday school class, but a school of the woods.” —RBP
